Car Rentals at Hilo (ITO) and Kona Airport (KOA) in Hawaii:

Rental car numbers in Hilo are limited, and we recommend that you make reservations far in advance, even if you need to change them later. There are no penalties for changing your plans or cancelling your vehicle reservation.

The same issues are apparent at the Kona airport. Please book in advance. You will not pay for your rental until you actually pick it up at the airport of your choice. The car rental agencies, such as Enterprise Rent-A-Car operate out of the Hilo and Kona Airports. If you are a member of an airline frequent flyer program, don't forget to ask for your miles.
